In a memorandum on Saturday (January 24, 2026), Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, along with his sister, Palme Borthakur, and uncle, Manoj Kumar Borthakur, called for the establishment of a special court in India. They also demanded a fast-tracked trial, appointment of the strongest prosecutors, and strict denial of bail for the accused.

“Zubeen Garg was not just a family member; he was the cultural voice of Assam and India’s Northeast,” the family wrote. “His sudden death has left millions of people grieving and demanding clarity and justice.”

They outlined the steps taken since Garg died while swimming off a Singapore island. They said the Singapore authorities immediately initiated proceedings, and the Indian High Commission in the island country coordinated the post-mortem and related processes.
