Members of a Special Investigation Team of Assam’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the residence of Zubeen Garg in Guwahati’s Kahilipara on Sunday (September 28, 2025), less than a day after the Assamese cultural icon’s family filed a complaint linked to his death.An officer of the probe team said they visited the late Garg’s residence to record the statements of his family members.On Saturday evening, the singer-composer’s family emailed a complaint to the CID, seeking a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to his death by drowning in Singapore on September 19.Also read | My brother, my mentor, Assam’s rockstar: Zubeen DaThe complaint was signed by the late singer-composer’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg; his sister, Palme Borthakur; and his uncle, Manoj Kumar Borthakur.“In the complaint, we specifically mentioned Siddharth Sharma and Shyamkanu Mahanta as the accused and requested an investigation against them. We have also requested that the entire team of people (around Garg on the fateful day) be brought under the ambit of the probe,” Mr. Borthakur said.Mr. Sharma was Garg’s manager, and Mr. Mahanta was the chief organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore. Garg was scheduled to perform at the festival despite battling ill health.A CID officer said that the probe team was working on the family’s complaint.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Mr. Mahanta had been given an October 6 deadline to give up, after which the government would take stern action against him. “We have frozen all his accounts,” Mr. Sarma said.
