California Gov. Gavin Newsom's office said the governor was denied entry into a venue at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Jan. 21, after being invited to speak at the event due to "pressure" from the Trump administration.
Newsom had been scheduled to speak with Fortune at the USA House, Davos, a privately organized event, at the World Economic Forum, which has been recognized by the U.S. government as the nation's headquarters in Davos.
According to Politico, Newsom was scheduled to speak at an event on Jan. 22, one day after Trump's speech, but that has since been removed from the schedule. But in messages obtained by Politico, it claims that the USA House leadership was pressured by the United States Department of State.
When asked why Newsom was turned away from the event, Newsom's office told the LA Times that it was a "venue decision" to not "include an elected U.S. official" in the event's programming.
The White House has not released a statement about Newsom's post.
