Seven individuals were arrested by the officials of Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department in a series of operations across Hyderabad on Thursday (January 9, 2026), seizing more than eight kilograms of ganja and 43 bottles of liquor being illegally transported from Haryana.
In Meerpet, the Rangareddy Enforcement-A team seized 3.35 kilograms of ganja after receiving information about drug sales in the area. One person identified as Mogili Rakesh was arrested and handed over to the Meerpet excise station along with the seized contraband.
In another operation, Saroornagar Task Force arrested two persons selling ganja on a scooter on the outskirts of Jillelguda Lake. The accused, Annalapu Sai Kiran and Bakka Raju, were found in possession of 2.21 kilograms of ganja and were handed over to the Balanagar excise station along with the scooter.
The State Task Force-B team arrested a man named Azmat near the Ameerpet bus stand and seized 1.522 kilograms of ganja from his possession. Cases were also registered against two others, Sikandar and Akbar, in connection with the same incident. The accused and the seized ganja were handed over to the Ameerpet excise station.
In Nampally, the STF-C team officials seized 775 grams of ganja from Sarva Kumar, a resident of Bihar, who was subsequently handed over to the local excise station. In a separate case in Meerpet, STF-D team personnel apprehended Shivakumar while he was allegedly selling ganja near a plastic shop and seized 310 grams of the banned substance.
