The first has waged hybrid warfare against Europe, of which the invasion of Ukraine is only one component, complemented by sabotage and disinformation campaigns. The second, more subtle, combines win-win rhetoric and intimidation tactics to dominate Europeans by dividing them, flooding the continent with goods it can no longer sell in the United States and seizing control of strategic companies. The US has now become a third predator seeking to carve up a dependent and weak Europe.

Europeans struggle to admit it, because European integration has always been linked to the transatlantic relationship. The idea of building Europe without or even against the US remains unthinkable. European integration, a profoundly political project, would not have been possible without the creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which allowed Europeans to embed their defense within an alliance with the US – a particularly sensitive subject, as it implies surrendering sovereignty.
