Jan. 6 (UPI) -- French President Emmanuel Macron will host a meeting of Ukraine allies Tuesday to secure guarantees of support if Ukraine and Russia sign a peace deal.
The leaders of about 35 countries calling themselves the "Coalition of the Willing" will meet Tuesday afternoon in Paris. The meeting will continue work on the joint statement released by European leaders after a summit in Berlin in December.
In his New Year's speech, Macron said he expects "firm commitments" to be made in protecting Ukraine against Russian aggression after any cease-fire.
"On Jan. 6 in Paris, many European states and allies will make concrete commitments to protect Ukraine and ensure a just and lasting peace on our European continent," Euro News reported Macron said.
