Emmanuel Macron confirmed European security guarantees for Ukraine are now ready after a meeting with the coalition of the willing today.
Speaking in Paris after a summit with the allies, the French president said 26 countries are prepared to keep the peace “on land, in the sea or in the air”.
The agreement aims to “guarantee the peace” and “reassure the people of Ukraine and maintain the ceasefire once it’s implemented, and maintain and guarantee peace,” he said.
The meeting earlier on Thursday involved 30 countries, either in person or via video link.
Friedrich Merz, the German Chancellor, said his country would make a “decisive contribution” to ensure the stability of any future peace agreement in Ukraine. He didn’t rule out sending German troops to monitor a ceasefire, but that would depend “once the framework conditions are clarified”.
