State vice-president of BJP Khushbu Sundar on Monday strongly criticised the DMK government, alleging neglect of farmers, failure to implement welfare schemes, and lack of safety for women in the State.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the party’s farmers’ awareness conference organised, she said prohibition should be the State’s first priority. “If someone dies after consuming illicit liquor, the DMK government provides ₹10 lakh as compensation. But, what relief does it offer farmers who are unable to pursue agriculture?” she asked.
She alleged that farmers are being forced to mortgage their wife’s thali and properties to continue farming, while the DMK has failed to deliver any substantial benefits to them over the last five years. “The Central Government has introduced around 300 schemes, which are being implemented in States such as Kerala and Karnataka. But in Tamil Nadu, not even 30 such schemes have been effectively implemented,” she said.
Ms. Sundar further accused the State government of blocking Central schemes meant for farmers. “When the Centre is ready to support farmers with schemes and loans, the State government fails to take these to the people,” she alleged, adding that beneficiaries in the State have gained under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana despite State-level hurdles.
