A section of farmers in Vairaperumalpatti in Budalur taluk staged a black flag demonstration on their agricultural fields on Friday in protest against non-sanction of crop loss compensation to them.
According to the CPI(M) Thanjavur District Executive Committee member, V. Jeevakumar, the crop loss caused by rain in 2024 in Vairaperumalpatti, Chithirakudi, and Maruthakudi was not considered for compensation.
Repeated representations from the affected farmers failed to evoke any response from the officials concerned. Hence, to register their protest and demanding compensation for the crop loss suffered by them in 2024, the farmers staged a demonstration on Friday, he added.
