The Beach Road stretch from Park Hotel Junction to NTR Statue will remain closed for vehicles from 8 p.m. on December 31 to 5 a.m. on January 1, in view of New Year celebrations, the City Police said in a release on Tuesday.

The middle lane on BRTS Road stretches from Hanumanthawaka Junction to Adavivaram, Gosala to Vepagunta, Pendurthi to Convent Junction via NAD Junction. Emergency vehicles can ply on the service road.

The middle lane of BRTS Road between Maddilapalem Junction to Rama Talkies and Underpass near RTC Complex will also remain closed. The police said that the Telugu Thalli flyover would remain closed for vehicles during the same period.

The police said that the decision was taken as Beach Road is expected to witness heavy crowd on the New Year eve.

“Strict action will be taken against those who harass women on the pretext of extending New Year greetings or by using obscene and abusive language. Criminal cases will be registered and such offenders will be arrested,” Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi said.
