BRS nominee in Jubilee Hills assembly constituency by-election, Maganti Sunitha, filed an election petition in the Telangana High Court on Monday seeking a direction to declare null and void the election of Congress candidate Naveen Yadav as MLA.
She stated in the petition, which is likely to be heard in a day or two, that Naveen Yadav failed to furnish in his election affidavit the details of seven criminal cases registered against him. She said in the plea that seven First Information Reports (FIRs) issued against Yadav in different police stations were pending for adjudication. The petitioner maintained that the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer through a memo issued on October 14 had directed all the contestants of the by-election to declare their antecedents. Not adhering to this amounted to violation of the orders of the Supreme Court issued earlier, she contended.
The contestant also stated that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, during the election campaign at Rahmathnagar, provoked the voters by holding a sword in his hand and appealed to the people to vote for Congress candidate Naveen Yadav. The CM also tried to lure votes by stating that ‘Muslims exist and get respect because of Congress ‘.
