LOS ANGELES, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Daisy Ridley said she is drawn to movies that provide emotional catharsis. Her latest, We Bury the Dead, in theaters Friday, is one of them.

Ridley plays Ava, a woman who volunteers to help clean up a military accident on an Australian island where her husband was visiting. In a recent Zoom interview with UPI, Ridley, 33, said films like We Bury the Dead appeal to her as a viewer.

"I do love being able to watch something and have a really, really good cry," Ridley said. "There's a wonderful thing of experiencing something in a movie, leaving and looking around going, 'Oh look, we're all here. We're all still here.'"

A recent example for Ridley was the Netflix drama Goodbye June, directed by and starring Kate Winslet. The story of a family coping with the impending death of their matriarch, played by Helen Mirren, over the holidays made an impact on Ridley.

"I saw Goodbye June last week and have not felt such a cathartic expression of grief in a while," Ridley said. "My eyes were tiny the next day from crying."
