The Kerala Muslim Jamat has demanded that Malappuram district be bifurcated to improve access to facilities for the district’s 4.7 million people.
Kerala Muslim Jamat district president Koottampara Abdurahman Darimi urged the State government to consider creating a new district to ensure fairness for the 4.7 million residents of Malappuram.
“It is high time that Malappuram district was bifurcated. This is the only way to provide equal facilities to all people irrespective of caste or religion,” said Mr. Darimi.
He raised the demand while addressing gatherings at Vengara and Kottakkal on Sunday (December 28), marking the conclusion of district-level build-up rallies organised ahead of a Kerala Yatra by the Kerala Muslim Jamat, as part of the centenary celebrations of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama.
Muslim Jamat leaders Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar and Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari Thangal will lead the Kerala Yatra from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram, raising the slogan ‘with humanity’. The yatra is scheduled from January 1 to 16. It will be given receptions at Areekode and Tirur in the district on January 7 and 8, respectively.
