Residents of O Block in Anna Nagar faced heavy smoke pollution due to a fire accident on Sunday (December 28, 2025) night. More than seven fire tenders from various parts of the city were pressed into service to douse the fire. A senior official of the Anna Nagar police station said residents noticed the fire at a scrap metal yard located in the First Avenue of O Block, Anna Nagar, at around 7.30 p.m. Even as the fire alert was received in the control room of the Fire and Rescue Services department, the fire spread to the entire scrap yard resulting in the destruction of various plastic and other materials. Fire tenders were deployed from Anna Nagar, Ambattur, Koyambedu, and Purasawalkam, to douse the fire. Firefighters brought the fire under control after nearly struggling for more than one hour.
