A fire broke out at the Perungudi dumpyard on Sunday.
Sidhesh Vinayakumar, a commuter along Perungudi, said, “I noticed thick, black fumes emitting from a waste pile at around 1.40 p.m. on Sunday while passing via the 200 Feet Radial Road and shot a video. I saw one fire brigade entering the premises then.”
“These fumes are toxic as it is mixed waste burning, including plastic, all which contain harmful chemicals. This is why living close to the dumpyard in Pallikarani or Perungudi is tough,” he added.
The last incident of fire reported in the dumpyard was on May 15.
