A resolution demanding removal of encroachments from all water bodies was adopted at the 41st Memorial Day of former farmer leader C. Narayanaswamy Naidu.
At the event conducted recently at Vaiyampalayam, where farmers from Coimbatore, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Erode, the Nilgiris, Thoothukudi, and Madurai took part, speakers emphasised that a directive issued by the High Court to this effect ought to be complied by the State government.
Another resolution called for a push for effective implementation of Tamil Nadu Organic Farming Policy 2023, through supply of organic seeds and manure, and training to farmers without hassles.
On Farmer Producer Organisations (FPO), the speakers observed that many had gone defunct, and that reviving them must be prioritised over starting new ones.
The farmers mooted a system of buy-back contract system for vegetables, and sought fixation of ₹45 as procurement price per litre of cow milk and ₹60 per litre of buffalo milk. They urged the government to implement all the pending water schemes. Irrigation schemes in Salem, Dharmapuri, Tenkasi, and Madurai districts must be completed within a time frame, they emphasised.
