A life convict who was released from Mysuru Central Prison earlier this month on the basis of good conduct has been sent to a rehabilitation home for women in her native place, Hassan, as her friends and relatives remain untraceable.
A statement issued by V. Sheshumurthy, Chief Superintendent of Mysuru Central Prison, said Shanthamma, wife of Manjappa, was sentenced to life imprisonment and slapped with a fine of ₹20,000 in November 2016 under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for a case registered in the Banavara police station in Hassan.
Ms. Shanthamma was released from Mysuru Central Prison on December 9, 2025, as per the orders of the Government of Karnataka.
However, as no blood relatives or friends came forward at the time of her release, the station house officer, Banavara Police station, and panchayat development officer, Banavara, Hassan district, were contacted.
Upon confirmation that no family members or blood relatives could be traced, she was admitted to Shakti Sadan, the women’s rehabilitation home in Hassan, and escorted there by the prison’s women staff, Mr. Sheshumurthy said.
