The Parappana Agrahara police have registered a case against a woman for allegedly uploading a series of Instagram videos containing unsubstantiated allegations about the administration and security arrangements at Bengaluru Central Prison.Based on a complaint by B.M. Kotresh, Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison, on Friday, a case has been registered under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.According to the complaint, the woman, identified as Sandya Nagaraj, allegedly used the Instagram account “Sandya777nagaraj” to upload videos on different dates, making allegations against the functioning of the prison administration. The complaint states that some of the videos allegedly contained remarks about a prison official and a woman officer, including claims of “love affairs” involving a jail officer and a prisoner, alleged illegal activities inside the prison, and other allegations concerning prison staff.Prison authorities have alleged that such content could damage the reputation of the prison and affect the morale of the officers and staff. They have also expressed concern that the videos could create tension among members of the public, prisoners, and released inmates and potentially provoke unlawful activity. The complaint further states that Sandya Nagaraj has a previous criminal background and had earlier been lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison in connection with a 2017 murder case registered at the Hulimavu Police Station. She was also allegedly involved in cases registered by the Kamakshipalya and Banashankari Police Stations in March 2026 and was released in June.Prison authorities have also alleged that she had previously uploaded videos targeting the prison department and its staff. Based on such earlier content, two NCRs were reportedly registered at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station on June 14.The latest complaint further alleges that videos uploaded from the Instagram account used the names and photographs of senior prison department officials, the Home Minister, and the Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women in a manner that allegedly caused reputational damage. The police are now examining the Instagram posts and the allegations made in the complaint as part of the case.
