A new police station was inaugurated at Sengothipalayam in Neelambur in Coimbatore on Monday.

The police station was established in view of factors such as an increase in population in the panchayat, incidents of crime and accidents, and the presence of two arterial roads — Avinashi Road and the Salem–Kochi highway.

Neelambur was earlier under the limits of the Sulur police station, located about 10 km away. The large jurisdiction of the Sulur police station was also a factor in the decision to establish a separate station at Neelambur.

After examining the proposal, the State government approved it on August 21, 2025, sanctioning 50 posts, including one Inspector, three Sub-Inspectors and 46 police personnel.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the police station via video conferencing from Chennai. Inspector General of Police, West Zone, T. Senthil Kumar, Coimbatore range Deputy Inspector General of Police V. Sasimohan, and Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan were present at the event.
