Lack of sufficient street lights along the road leading to the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot) Tiruchi I-T Park at Anna Nagar has caused hardship to motorists and IT employees.
The 4.7-km road serves as an important road for the employees of Information Technology and the Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) companies at the I-T park. Though there are no major issues as far as the road is concerned, they flag insufficient number of lamp posts and lighting facilities. According to sources, around 1,500 employees use the roads daily, in addition to the residents belonging to Navalpattu, Guntur, and Kumbakudi villages. The employees, including women, visit their offices in cars and on two-wheelers. Many people return to their homes after completing night duty. But the road has insufficient number of street lights. Except for a few metres, wherever the lamp posts are located, darkness engulfs the road posing trouble to the motorists. Roaming stray cattle at night on the dark stretches of the road make it a nightmare for drivers. Commuting in cars in the late nights too become unsafe for the road users.
“It is probably one of the most dangerous roads in Tiruchi. I have presented a number of petitions at the grievance meetings at the Collector Office, highlighting the need for erecting more lamp posts along the Anna Nagar link road from Tiruchi-Pudukottai Highway. I have also brought it to the notice of the State Highways and village panchayats concerned. I have been fighting for the issue for so many months. However, the problem is yet to be resolved,” says R. Thiruvengadam, a social activist.
