TIRUCHIThe National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to rectify non-functional street lights between Palpannai and Thuvakudi, fulfilling a long-felt need of residents living along colonies off the Tiruchi-Thanjavur Highway in the city.Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko, who recently held discussions with senior NHAI officials on the status of the on-going projects, said the officials had informed him that a tender had been floated at an estimated cost of ₹3.6 crore and the prrocess would be completed soon and the street lights made functional.Residents of the locality had been complaining for long over the non-functional street lights. “Based on my request, about 75 additional lights were installed. Though they were functioning, a majority of the existing street lights were not functioning properly,” Mr. Durai Vaiko said.In a recent representation to the Collector, the Federation for Retrieval of Trichy Palpannai-Thuvakudi Service Road complained that more than 200 street lights on the highway were not functioning.
