As the Justice Department scrambles to meet a deadline to release the full Jeffrey Epstein files by Friday, officials within the DOJ expressed frustration with the process, CNN reported Thursday.

One source told the network that many of the lawyers working on the case have had to comb through over 1,000 documents each since Thanksgiving week to make the required redactions, among other things, pointing to the complexity and the sensitivity of the task.

Other unnamed sources also voiced concern that lawyers within the department's National Security Division weren't receiving "clear or comprehensive direction on how to make the most information available" to comply with the law.
