The Bombay High Court premises were evacuated on Thursday (December 18, 2025) around 1 p.m. after an email warning of a bomb was received, triggering large-scale security checksSimilar threat messages were sent to several magistrate courts in Mumbai, including Bandra, Andheri, and Esplanade (Killa Court), as well as the sessions court and Mazgaon court, police said. Evacuation was carried out at these locations, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was deployed. Court work was disrupted for about an hour at the High Court, where judges, lawyers, litigants, and staff were asked to vacate the building. “Due to the threat and the search operation, the regular court proceedings were disrupted for about an hour. All the courtrooms were thoroughly searched and hearings began at 3 p.m.,” said Nitin Thakker, president of the Bombay Bar Association. An internal message from the Chief Justice’s office stated, “All courtrooms are being inspected by security teams. Please vacate the premises immediately and cooperate with the authorities. Further updates will follow once clearance is given.” The BBA and Advocates’ Association of Western India also issued an advisory asking members and staff to cooperate with security checks. Advocates confirmed that similar threats were also sent to the Nagpur District and Sessions Court. The email claimed two RDX-based explosive devices would go off inside the building, prompting a security sweep. However, nothing suspicious was found. Police officials said the investigation is underway to trace the sender. Published - December 18, 2025 01:41 pm IST
