The Manali Lake in Ward 20 of the Manali zone has reached its capacity of 12 lakh cubic feet of water.

According to a press release, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) had increased the depth of the lake from 1.2 metres to four metres. The restoration project, funded under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme and using GCC capital funds, covered 29 acres of the lake.

The work involved deepening the lake, reinforcing its bunds, and installing infrastructure to manage inflow and outflow. Additional facilities, including a children’s play area, seating, footpaths, lighting, drinking water facilities, and a security room, were also installed.

The lake has helped reduce run-off in the surrounding areas and increase the groundwater table, the press release said.
