Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Chileans elected a hard-right candidate who has pledged to build a border wall to deter migrants as president on Sunday.
Far right former congressman Jose Antonio Kast, 59, son of a Nazi party member, built his campaign on a promise to remove tens of thousands of undocumented migrants from the country.
He beat Jeannette Jara, 51, a former labor minister in the administration of center-left president Gabriel Boric. Jara conceded defeated just before the polls closed.
"Democracy has spoken loud and clear," she wrote on social media. "I have just spoken with president-elect [Kast] to wish him success for the good of Chile."
