As the bright winter sun lit up the stage on Sunday (December 14, 2025) morning, Pandit Partho Sarothy mesmerised the audience in Mangaluru with his sublime sarod recital.

Pt. Sarothy’s performance was part of Swaraanand Pratishthan’s Baithak music programme held at the University’s College’s Ravindra Kalabhavan.

Pt. Sarothy started with compositions in the meditative morning raag, Bairagi. The hour-long segment in pentatonic scale (five notes per octane), took audience to a meditative state. The effortless way in which the veteran artiste moved between high and low octane tones was well appreciated by the audience. Ashis Paul’s jhaptaal beats on the tabla complemented Pt. Sarothy’s sublime presentation.

After a 15-minute break, Pt. Sarothy resumed concert and presented compositions set to another morning raag, Ahir Bhairav, for about an hour.

The audience swayed in appreciation of Pt. Sarothy’s rendition and joined in sync. Some even closed their eyes
