More than 91 million Americans are facing cold weather alerts as a blast of Arctic air overtakes much of the country on Dec. 13.

From Montana all the way through northern Florida, cold weather advisories blanketed parts of at least 21 states.

Meanwhile, 54 million people were under winter weather advisories across several Midwest and Northeastern states.

Record low maximum temperatures are expected to be broken in the upper Midwest and Michigan over the weekend with high temperatures below zero or in the single digits, the National Weather Service said. In the Midwest on Dec. 14, highs in the teens will be 20 to 30 degrees below average.

The bitter cold will extend deep into the South. Wind chills are expected to reach 15 degrees, the weather service office in Jacksonville, Florida, said.
