A 17-year-old Intermediate student from Chinna Bazar area in Guntur city was allegedly introduced to drugs by two youth she met on Instagram, according to the Lalapet police.
On learning about her addiction, her mother tried to end her life and was rushed to the Guntur Government General Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. IGP (EAGLE) Ake Ravi Krishna and Guntur Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal visited the woman at the hospital and enquired about her health.
Mr. Ravi Krishna said strict action will be taken against the culprits. Mr. Vakul Jindal said a special team has been formed to probe the case and identify those who supplied drugs to the minor. He noted that about 150 drug users were identified and booked over the past three months and that efforts were under way to trace the suppliers and peddlers.
Police said the minor will be provided counselling and treatment at a de-addiction centre.
