The Greater Chennai Corporation on Friday demolished a 10000 sq ft commercial building following the order of the Madras High Court to remove an encroachment.
According to a press release, the building with ground plus two floors was constructed on Perumal Koil Street in Nerkundram on land belonging to the Tamil Nadu Housing Board. The building was demolished by Chennai Corporation officials in the presence of officials of TNHB and TANGEDCO.
Ward 145 councillor T.Sathyanathan said the residents in the area have demanded the TNHB to hand over the land to the Chennai Corporation for construction of an indoor stadium after demolition of the building. “The land measures eight grounds. Local residents do not have space for a playground in the area. Residents request Kabaddi courts and volleyball courts as it is popular among youths in the area.”
