The Greater Chennai Corporation has taken up road, building, lighting, park and sanitation works worth over ₹72 crore in Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board residential areas, covering more than 170 locations and benefiting over 1.22 lakh households.

A total of 104 road improvement works costing ₹15.11 crore have been undertaken in 74 residential areas, covering a length of 15,039 metres. These include 37 bituminous roads, 11 paver block roads and 56 cement concrete roads, of which 81 have been completed. The works involved repairing damaged roads, strengthening footpaths and providing proper gradients to ensure access.

According to a press release, renovation, maintenance and construction works worth ₹13.33 crore were carried out in 56 buildings, including 37 child care centres, 15 fair price shops, three primary health centres, one Amma Canteen and compound walls. Nine parks and two playgrounds were upgraded and maintained at a cost of ₹98.99 lakh.

Street lighting works costing ₹10.85 crore were taken up in 123 residential areas. The works include installation of 1,476 light poles, nine high-mast lights and 2,782 LED lights. Works have been completed in 48 residential areas, while installations are under way in the remaining 75 locations.
