SZA blasted the White House as “Evil n Boring” after it used her music in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement video earlier this week. The White House clip, titled “WE HEARD IT’S CUFFING SZN,” features a track that the singer/songwriter performed in a “Saturday Night Live” sketch called “Big Boys,” which focuses on settling down with someone in the winter months. The White House’s ad, meanwhile, shows federal agents handcuffing immigrants as SZA’s song plays in the background.“White House rage baiting artists for free promo is PEAK DARK ..inhumanity +shock and aw tactics ..Evil n Boring ,” SZA wrote in a Wednesday post on X.Her post also cited a message from her manager, Punch, who seemed to suggest that the Trump administration was trying to provoke artists so that it could gain attention for its “propaganda and political agendas.” It’s “nasty business,” Punch wrote. “Knock it off.”White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson responded to SZA’s criticism by suggesting that her comments drew more attention to ICE agents’ work. SZA is among a growing number of artists who’ve called out the White House for using their music in promotional videos for ICE or President Donald Trump. Last week, Sabrina Carpenter described a White House clip, which included her song “Juno,” as “evil and disgusting.”“Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda,” Carpenter wrote in a post on X. Kenny Loggins has also recently pressed the White House to drop the use of his song “Danger Zone” from an AI video of Trump. “This is an unauthorized use of my performance of ‘Danger Zone.’ Nobody asked me for my permission, which I would have denied, and I request that my recording on this video is removed immediately,” Loggins told Variety in a statement in October.
