Dec. 10 (UPI) -- The United States Postal Service on Wednesday issued its holiday operating schedule heading into the new year.

Postal officials said next week is the final window to mail holiday gifts and cards in time for recommended delivery dates, they stated in a release.

According to USPS, its customer traffic has climbed steadily since the first of the month, and this week is projected to be the busiest of the year at post offices nationwide.

USPS offices nationwide will close on Christmas Day and New Year's Day on Jan. 1.
