The seven southern Kerala districts recorded a polling percentage of 70.9 on Tuesday in first phase of the 2025 local body elections, as per the data on voter turnout released by the State Election Commission (SEC).

This accounts for 94.08% of the total 1.32 crore voters in the local bodies in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts where elections were held on Tuesday.

The SEC said that the figures were provisional based on updates till 9 p.m. on Tuesday and that the final data would be published only on Wednesday.

As per the available data, Ernakulam recorded the highest voter turnout, while Pathanamthitta had the lowest. The updates on the district-wise polling percentages are as follows: Thiruvananthapuram 67.4, Kollam 70.36, Pathanamthitta 66.78, Alappuzha 73.76, Kottayam 70.94, Idukki 71.77, and Ernakulam 74.58.

To compare, these seven districts had logged a turnout of 73.85% in the 2020 elections, show SEC data. On Tuesday, 70.28% of the female voters, 71.6% of the male voters and 40.48% of the transgender voters exercised their right to vote.
