Samajwadi Party MP Mohibbullah Nadvi triggered a controversy on Wednesday (November 3, 2025) when he said that Muslims may have to do ‘jihad’ to fight against their oppression by the current government.

Mr. Nadvi, who represents the constituency of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, told the Lok Sabha that his party has repeatedly said that the BJP-led government’s policy and intention behind the Waqf Amendment Bill are not right.

“It looks as if Articles 25 and 26 of the Indian Constitution have been undermined by this government... The descendants of the Muslims who fought for the freedom of the country are now mulling over the fact that they may once again have to wage jihad to fight against the injustice and oppression of this government. How long will Muslims keep tolerating this suppression?” Mr. Nadvi asked.

Later, he told journalists outside the Parliament that the way Muslims are being mocked in this country is against the Constitution and patriotism.
