The latest in a long spate of fatal workplace accidents in Italy occurred Wednesday afternoon at 'Montello Spa' in Montello, Bergamo, when a 27-year-old worker died around 5:30 PM while working in a loading pit, where he was apparently struck by debris.

The worker was a maintenance worker external to the Bergamo-based company specializing in the recovery and recycling of plastic and organic materials.

Emergency medical personnel were on the scene, but were unable to save the 27-year-old's life.

The Carabinieri of Bergamo and technicians from ATS (the local health authority) intervened to carry out investigations.

It is the latest in a long spate of accidental workplace deaths in Italy.
