RIYADH: Complex surgery to remove a tumor from the proximal femur extending to the left hip joint using 3D-printing technology has been performed at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre.
Patient-specific, 3D-printed cutting guides allowed the team to excise the tumor while preserving the limb, enabling the patient to walk immediately after surgery.
High-resolution imaging was used to design the custom guides, minimizing bone loss and improving surgical precision, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
An advanced prosthetic hip joint was implanted after the tumor’s removal, restoring mobility quickly and safely.
The success highlights the hospital’s leadership in 3D printing, recognized with the Global Excellence Award in Technology Project Management.
