RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior is using artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve service quality, security and environmental security.

The ministry uses advanced technologies across several areas including crowd management and translation for pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah. AI-equipped drones are used to enhance surveillance, monitoring and crowd management.

Its use of AI focuses on technological innovation, integration, speed and accuracy, managing human density through crowd flow analysis and congestion prediction and using big data to allocate human and technological resources.

Other AI tools including a command-and-control center equipped with real-time data analysis technology help to reduce crime in the country. This makes for more seamless and efficient experience for citizens, residents and visitors, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The center enables a rapid, accurate response to both pilgrims and Umrah performers when it comes to crowd management, security and safety, and service issues, in close collaboration with various government departments.
