A shooting in the heart of Washington, DC, on the day before Thanksgiving prompted officials to lock down multiple government buildings, including the the White House.
Two members of the National Guard were shot near the presidential residence in the afternoon of Nov. 26, federal officials said.
President Donald Trump was not at the White House at the time of the shooting. He was a his Mar-a-Lago resort home in Palm Beach, Florida, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“The White House is aware and actively monitoring this tragic situation. The President has been briefed," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
DC's Metropolitan Police said a suspect in the shooting was in custody.
