Two multi-level shuttle parking facilities in Greater Kailash and Punjabi Bagh, inaugurated by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta two months ago, have become operational on Monday.

The delay was due to long-pending compliance requirements for which the responsible official has been terminated, as per the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) release.

Although construction of the ₹63.7-crore automated parking structure was ongoing for three years, the Greater Kailash facility couldn’t be made operational because MCD was still waiting for mandatory approvals related to tree-felling along the boundary of the site. These trees had to be cleared to create a six-metre-wide corridor for emergency vehicles.

“Permission to cut down 18 trees was sought from the Forest Department, and while the approval eventually came through, a few other compliances were still pending. The official responsible for the delay has been terminated,” an MCD official said.
