Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday inaugurated a puzzle automated car parking facility built by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi at Punjabi Bagh Cremation Ground to ease traffic snarls in the area.The MCD-made project, launched as part of the ‘Seva Pakhwada’ (service fortnight) to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, is the first of 20 such facilities planned by the Delhi government. Ms. Gupta also laid the foundation stone of a similar parking area at Bharat Darshan Park.The CM said parking has long been a “source of conflict and stress” for Delhi residents. “Citizens were forced to park on roadsides, leading to traffic disruptions and daily disputes. Automated facilities are the need of the hour. Our aim is to ensure modern parking in all parts of Delhi to strengthen its image as a well-organized capital,” she said.The Punjabi Bagh project, constructed on 3,000 square metre at a cost of about ₹31 crore, can accommodate 225 cars across nine modules. The fully automated system allows drivers to leave vehicles on a platform, after which the system parks them without human intervention. Retrieval takes just 150 seconds, officials said. Health initiativesMs. Gupta also flagged off 11 Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulances to improve the medical emergency response time in the Capital.At the launch in Delhi Secretariat, she said the government was planning to increase the number of ambulances so that “ambulances reach a patient before a pizza is delivered to a person.” The CM said the total number of ambulances in fleet is expected to touch 53 in October and eventually scale up to 1,000.Ms. Gupta also launched an organ donation portal, some key healthcare initiatives, under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) and an Early Intervention Centre at Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, which will focus on screening and addressing developmental challenges in children.About the organ donation portal, she said, “Lakhs of people require organ donation. But there was no system in place to help them register. Now, people can register to donate organs after death and those in need will get them in an organised way.”Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, who was also at the launch, said, “The online organ donation portal will bring transparency and allow citizens to participate in saving lives.” Published - September 26, 2025 01:35 am IST
