Miniature arts, sand art, coconut shell products, hand-drawn postcards, caricatures, and paintings adorn Art Street, a flagship event of the annual Coimbatore Vizha.
Organised by the CII’s Young Indians (Yi), Coimbatore centre, the Art Street (Ovia Sandhai) at Government Arts College in Coimbatore, has 90 stalls this year. The artists, including almost 40 women, have worked on various mediums - glass, canvas, stone, thread work, wax, wood, etc.
The colourful event has several stalls where the visitors can try their hands on sketching, get their caricatures done, and take selfies. The Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID), Coimbatore Centre, has put up platforms under the theme “Urban Reflections”, bringing light and colour to the event.
Sand artist from Chennai Raju said he is one of the regular participants at Art Street. He uses river sand to create images and portraits.
India Post has put up a stall with a post box and encourages children to write letters to their grandparents.
