H
istory is stuttering. The uproar over the latest negotiation led by the United States and Russia once again places Ukrainians and Europeans under intense pressure. The plan was leaked to the press on Wednesday, November 19, and includes territorial concessions to Moscow, reductions in the Ukrainian army and its armaments, a pledge not to join NATO and a ban on deploying NATO troops in Ukraine. It heavily favors Russian demands, with the distant goal of ending the fighting after nearly four years of war.
This was the fourth time since his first call with Vladimir Putin shortly after returning to the White House that Donald Trump, who continuously oscillates in his stance on Ukraine, has pushed for dialogue with the Kremlin leader behind the backs of Kyiv and its European allies, all in the name of an uncertain rapprochement between the US and Russia.
