One of the nine convicts in the Pollachi sexual assault case has moved the Madras High Court with an appeal against the verdict delivered by the trial court in Coimbatore on May 13 this year.

Sources in the know of the development said K. Thirunavukkarasu, 34, of Makkinampatti has filed an appeal against the verdict of the Mahila Court, Coimbatore.

The trial court had awarded life imprisonment to Thirunavukkarasu and eight others, namely N. Sabarirajan, 32, aka Rishwanth, of Jothi Nagar; M. Sathish, 33, and T. Vasanthakumar, 30, of Suleeswaranpatti; R. Mani, aka Manivannan, 32, of Achipatti; P. Babu, 33, of Mahalingapuram; T. Haronimus Paul, 32, of Achipatti; K. Arulanantham, 39, of Vadugapalayam; and M. Arunkumar, 33, of Panikkampatti.

Sources said that Thirunavukkarasu, who had been a budding financier, also filed a petition seeking the court to condone the delay in filing the appeal. The petition for the condonation of delay was filed as an appeal against the trial court’s verdict had to be made within 60 days from the date of the judgment.
