The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday announced a 27-member Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Election Coordination Committee.
State president Mukhyamantri Chandru made the announcement at a press conference.
Sitaram Gundappa will serve as the State working president and chairman of the Campaign Committee, while V. Lakshmikanth Rao has been named vice-president of the Campaign Committee. The Promotion Committee will have 25 members, including Mr. Chandru, who will oversee campaign promotion across the city.
Mr. Chandru criticised the delay in holding municipal elections, saying the city has gone five years without elected representatives.
“Bengaluru has been without elected ward representatives for five years as three major political parties have failed to conduct municipal elections. The city’s infrastructure has deteriorated significantly during this period. A city once celebrated globally as Silicon City has regressed into what many now call Garbage City. Decades of substandard civic works executed by corrupt politicians and officials have created daily hardships for citizens, with thousands of crores lost to corruption,” he argued.
