Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Wednesday that the government was doing all it could to obtain the release of Alberto Trentini, an Italian aid worker who has been held in Venezuela on 'conspiracy' charges for over a year.
He said that the situation was more complex than other similar cases, such as that of Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, who was released soon after being held by Iran last December - an Iranian held on Italy on a US arrest warrant was released soon after she was.
"The Trentini case is dear to our hearts," Tajani told Il Messaggero Veneto.
"We are working incessantly for his release.
"The situations are different from country to country.
