The CPI demanded a judicial inquiry into the alleged encounter in which Maoist Central Committee leader Madvi Hidma, his wife, and four others were killed in Maredumilli of Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Tuesday.
CPI national secretary K. Ramakrishna, in a statement on Tuesday, condemned the incident, calling it an act of brutality.
The killing of Hidma and the other Maoists by the police forces, despite Maoist leaders expressing willingness for talks with the government, was “highly deplorable,” he said.
It was unacceptable for a democratically elected government to resort to encounters instead of resolving issues through negotiations, he added.
Criticising the Centre for continuing what he described as “repressive tactics,” instead of pursuing democratic dialogue, he demanded that a judicial inquiry be ordered into the encounter.
