Describing alternative politics as ‘fascism’, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan on Tuesday said his party did not subscribe to it.
Addressing a gathering at a function held at Pudukariyapatti on the outskirts of Thanjavur, where the foundation laying ceremony for Nammavar Noolagam, Nammavar Padippagam and Nammavar Kalaikoodam was held, the actor-turned-politician said he floated a political party only after serving the public initially. “Though alternative voices are essential for democracy, we need to stand together when it comes to the question of nation.”
Referring to criticism in political circles about MNM aligning with DMK, he said indeed he threw the remote on the television set (in an earlier party advertisement), but someone usurped the remote. Realising that the remote should remain with the State, it was recovered and concealed. Some one would steal it if two persons were fighting with each other. Hence, the alliance.
