Donald Trump’s remarks on the importance of caring for the most vulnerable children drew major eyerolls and accusations of deep hypocrisy on Thursday.
The president, speaking at a White House event launching first lady Melania Trump’s “Fostering the Future” initiative, which seeks to expand opportunities for youngsters in foster care, said:
“The Bible tells us that one of the measures of any society is how it cares for vulnerable children and orphans. So important, and it is so big in the Bible. So, as we make America great again, we’re going to protect American children in foster care and ensure that they will never, ever be forgotten.”

Some people on social media suggested Trump was misquoting the Bible with his political spin on the longstanding idea of helping those most in need.
