Police arrested two persons, including a woman, for allegedly cheating 38 people in city by promising to take them on a spiritual tour of Mount Kailash.
Perumal, 54, who works in the Thiruvateeswarar Temple in Triplicane, was approached by Selvi, who told him that her acquaintance, Swatheeswaran of Ambattur, was organising a spiritual tour of Mount Kailash. Perumal and several others paid between ₹35,000 and ₹45,000 each to join the trip.
However, whenever the promised date of the trip arrived, the organisers postponed it repeatedly. When the victims demanded a refund, Swatheeswaran absconded.
On investigation, the Zam Bazaar police arrested Swatheeswaran, 34, of Ambattur, and Selvi, 58, of Royapettah, on Tuesday.
