Premier Giorgia Meloni is meeting her Albanian counterpart Edi Rama at Rome's Villa Doria Pamphili on Thursday to sign an agreement to develop economic cooperation between the countries in the spheres of infrastructure, defence and security, migration, energy, environment, health, innovation and training.
The Italy-Albania intergovernmental summit takes place two years after Rome and Tirana signed a controversial agreement for Italian migrant centres to be set up on Albanian territory.
Legal hurdles have prevented the Albanian-migrant-centres initiative taking off in earnest, although this may change when the new EU Pact on Migration comes into force next year.
